Classes are organized into 3-hour sessions. Exact dates and times TBD
Fabric Collage Workshop (One session, sample designs vary)
$30 per student
Kate will demonstrate her layered applique technique. Students will learn how to use freezer paper to trace patterns, cut shapes out of fabric, and layer the pieces to create a lovely fabric collage. Class includes printed instructions, sample pattern, and hands on instruction. Sample designs vary throughout the year.
Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) Workshop (One session)
$30 per student
Works well as a follow up to the Fabric Collage Workshop but can be taken separately. Kate will demonstrate how she uses quilting stitches to add texture, shading and details to her fiber art compositions. Students will practice free-motion quilting techniques and apply them to their own artwork.
Start to Finish Quilt (One session per week for 4 weeks)
$120 per student
The Start to Finish Quilt sample design will change throughout the year, exploring different fiber art techniques and styles. Students may customize the colors and arrangement of their fabric compositions. This class combines some elements of a Fabric Collage Workshop and a Free Motion Quilting Workshop along with other construction techniques. Students will learn how to bind the quilt edges and the class will discuss different ways to display their fiber artwork.
Includes printed instructions, patterns, and hands on instruction to create a 16”x20” finished quilt.
Studio Away from Home (One session)
$15 per student
Artists may book a studio session to focus on their own sewing, knitting or quilting projects, or as a place to photograph their finished artwork. Work in a clean, well-lit space with access to some of the tools and machines in the Fiber Art Studio. Artists may bring their own project materials and tools, within certain guidelines. Design wall, tripod and portable lights for photography can be made available with some advanced notice.
Projects involving paints, inks, dyes, bleach, fire hazards or odors/fumes are NOT PERMITTED
Unstructured Maker Space (One session)
$15 per student
The Fiber Art Studio provides workspace and access to tools and materials as a fun intro to fiber art. Students can gain experience with tools such as a longarm quilting machine, serger or knitting machine. Sample materials such as fabric scraps, yarn and blank postcards will be available as supplies last.
One on One Mentoring
$60 per session
One on One Mentoring is tailored to the student’s creative interests and goals. You may want to develop a specific skill, receive feedback on a particular project, or get advice on professional development such as: creating a body of work, photographing quilts, or entering fiber art shows. Kate will work with you to make the most of your mentoring session.
NOTE: For any class or workshop (other than One on One Mentoring) the minimum enrollment is 2 students; maximum 6 students, per session.
